The Northern Flicker is a large woodpecker found in North America. Though different colours, the Yellow-Shafted Flicker, found in the East, and the Red-Shafted Flicker, found in the West, are the same species. Not visible in this drawing, the yellow-shafted morph has, as the name indicates, bright yellow-shafted wing and tail feathers. Males have a black malar stripe (or moustache), just like on this drawing. The red-shafted morph has red-shafted wing and tail feathers, and males have a red malar stripe. Feeding mostly on insect, nuts and seeds, they also eat berries and fruits in the fall and winter when insects become sparse.

This design developed during my time in Cambodia. The Bee-Eater was one of my favorite birds to observe in Southeast Asia. An agile hunter from their perches, their maneuverability was a joy to watch.

Birdwatching or bird watching is an activity focused on the contemplation and study of wild birds. This hobby is rather developed as leisure, and is based on the art of recognizing the different species of birds for their taxonomy, taking into account the plumage or song among other factors. Many simply create lists that show the number of birds that flock to a particular area; others keep a list of all the species they saw in their lives. Everyone can go in and adapt this hobby in their own way. Some are content with simply enjoying and enriching the walks in a natural environment, while others are fascinated by the scientific part that involves the study of birds, ornithology.
