Morning Flight of the Sandhill Cranes by Debra Martz Just to the left of this landscape is the Sand Creek Bay where 1000s of Sandhill Cranes were wading in the water in the very early morning. Many of them flew before there was ample light for photographs. The light and colors are from the sun rising in the east highlighting the western sky and landscape. Taken during fall migration in early November at the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge where just a short hike will lead you to the bay and a very nice bird blind for photographers and bird watchers. A reddish egret flies near the coast of St. Maarten along the Caribbean Ocean coast.

Great Kiskadee Departs The Nest - Painterly While walking the main trail at Bentsen - Rio Valley Grande State Park I spotted a pair of Kiskadees working very hard to build their nest. When one would leave the other would be right there with its next materials for the nest. American White Pelican Gliding Along by Debra Martz The American White Pelicans were flying to and fro at the spillway. The early morning light creating wonderful shadows. The shadows casted by the wings of this pelican created neat shapes making an almost abstract bird in flight image. Royal Tern Catching the Sunlight by Debra Martz The Royal Tern flies over water with bill pointing down and plunges into water to catch fish. Several flew by me while I was walking the beach of North Padre Island, Texas. This one turned just right to catch the beautiful sunlight. Just after dawn on a September morning at Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England with the sun rise colouring the sky. Offshore work is ongoing with a platform seen next to a partially built wind turbine on the horizon and all under a sky straight from a Turner painting (at least to my eye!).

Great Blue Heron In Flight Over the Spillway by Debra Martz I go to the Great Salt Plains State Park in northern Oklahoma quite often for bird watching. I have hosted numerous tours on Norfolk Island but I have never before had an opportunity to photograph the Red Tailed Tropic Bird in flight from such close quarters. A truly beautiful bird and poetry in motion.

Brown Pelicans Take Flight by Debra Oh the joys of being able to drive on the beach in South Texas. This particular day there were more Brown Pelicans than normally. There were hundreds of them! I stopped and watched from a distance for quite some time and enjoyed seeing them take to flight in varying numbers, then circle out over the water and return to the shoreline. Woman Flying Bird garden by MAKO DESIGN FOR U !

Taken at one of my bird photography workshops at Golden Beach on the Sunshine Coast. Nothing looks more comical than a pelican about to land. A friend once said to me "when they are flying they look like experts, when they are landing they look like they are still on their first lesson."

A flock of birds flying in the sky. This was originally a photo which I turned into digital art to emphasize its graphic look.

!http://ih1.redbubble.net/image.90179157.3634/mp,550x550,matte,ffffff,t.3u9.jpg! swallows gather by the hundreds (perhaps thousands) and occupy hydro lines before migration - here they are shown exercising their wings, (this is only a small area photographed...there were many more) and after tumbling, turning and flitting about, they will return to sit on the wires for 10 or 15 minutes followed by another bout of exercise

The beauty of these Canadian Geese as they take off heading south is amazing. I love watching them fly in formation, taking turns to lead the flock. I added a painterly effect to give the image a more dramatic look especially against the dark storm clouds.

Surreal in their appearance as they swoop down to grab the last morsel of food from your hand/basket - characters, that is what the floridian gulls are!

Some from a huge flock of Budgerigars, (Melopsittacus undulatus), somewhere between 2-3,000 in the flock, wheeling at high speed before coming to drink and bathe in small pools of water in a huge market garden. A flock of flying birds in the sky. This was originally a photo which I turned into digital art to emphasize its graphic look.

As if the Sandhill Cranes were not loud enough, from the field beyond the bay arose a very loud Murmuration of Starlings. European Starlings use murmuration to confuse predators and to keep warm. And it could have been either one on this morning as it was 24 degrees when we arrived and while watching mainly the Sandhill Cranes we witnessed about 10 Bald Eagles flying over the water and the grassy areas. Pelican Togetherness by Debra Martz When North America's second largest bird, with an average wingspan of 9 feet, flies in a tight-knit group like this, I wonder how they do it with such grace!
