British Railways Standard Class 7 steam locomotive Britannia number 70000 arrives at Highley Station on the Severn Valley Railway. The Engineer is about to exchange the token with the Signalman that allows the train to run on the next section of single line track. The standard class 7 is also known as the Britannia Class as Britannia was the first engine of 55 in this class.

Flying Scotsman LNER number 4472 became the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at a speed of 100 MPH on the 30th November 1934 on a special test run. Unofficially the GWR locomotive 3440 City of Truro was timed at running in excess of 100 mph during a run from Plymouth to London in 1904.
