The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise looking like it's part of a (very wintry) fairytale. November really is perfect for photos in the Rockies, with a gorgeous layer of snow over everything except the streams, which still babble over the rocks.

The rocks of the gorge at Athabasca Falls are fascinating. Not only are they stunning colours, but the shapes betray how years and years of water movement have shaped the entirety of the gorge.

When I saw that the skies were staying clear, I headed out for a bit of night photography -- after all, what else should I have done on the last day of the Jasper Dark Sky Festival? I was pretty happy with my shots while I was there -- and even happier when I got home and realised I'd captured a bit of aurora without even noticing. Truly an accidental aurora! Mount Robson is the most prominent mountain in North America's Rocky Mountain range; it is also the highest point in the Canadian Rockies.

I had to be very careful to compose my shot and make sure that I didn't step on any of the perfect baubles of snow all along the shoreline at Castle Junction! I love the look of fresh snow when you can still see the shapes (and occasional peeks) of what it is covering.

The northern lights light up the skies above Jasper and the waters of Lake Edith below. It was well worth the wait on the shoreline, even if it was so quiet that I jumped out of my skin when a fish jumped nearby! Camera: Nikon D750 w/ 16-35mm f/4 lens ISO 3200, 30s @f4

From about halfway up the C-Level Cirque track on the side of Banff's Cascade Mountain, we found a lookout with my favourite view of the day. While Lake Minnewanka is gorgeous to visit, its waters are often rough; this angle smoothed them out as well as showing just how large the lake really is!

A week before the Jasper SkyTram closed for the season and there was already plenty of snow at the top! What we anticipated to be a fairly short trip up turned into a full afternoon of walking around on the top of Mount Whistlers, enjoying the crunch of snow under our feet and the epic views all around us.
