"Dionysus" by Edward McCartan (1879-1947), crowned with ivy, stands nonchalantly, one knee sharply bent, hand on hips. He hold a thrysus over the head of a panther which curls behind his legs. A piece of drapery is draped over his left wrist and thigh. Originally designed in 1923, was enlarged and remodeled for Brookgreen Gardens in 1936. A Welcome Change Today, the last day of August, I went to Clingendael with my dear friend Michelle. It’s a welcome change from drawing art deco models, such as the last one. We were out there to take some landscape pictures and to do some drawing. Quite nice weather I must say. It’s still summer, no wind and plenty of sun although not as hot as last week. Perfect for outdoor sketching. However, when I arrived at the estate I realized I forgot my camping chairs. Those are unconfortable to transport by bike anyway. The only option left was to find a suitable bench in the woods or tree trunk to sit on. Condition number two is to have an interesting motif in front of your eyes. Brugman Art And then the day for a planned live model session finally arrived: drawing Melina Noëlle. She is the daughter of Guinnie who is, together with her sister Gaby, responsible for the catering in Brugman art. As I ride down the road, I see numerous Zombie Apocalypse vehicles parked in lots and cruising the streets. It is part of our society and can be fun or serious to some who believe that zombies will eventually take over the world. I’m a very big fan of “The Walking Dead” Series and the “Talking Dead” Talk Show. My art plans for the future include more zombies as fine art, sgraffito style and tattoo style characters with a touch of street flair. An A4 india ink drawing; done in about 1990 with my favourite dipping-nib pen, this is a semi-figurative, totemistic design, incorporating negative space and filtered through a deranged perception.
