A lovely little house at Broadford on the Island of Skye, Scotland. Broadford is the second largest town on Skye. This little cottage now houses a small exhibition center. Views over the bay extend out to the Isle of Pabay and more distantly to the Applecross mountains on the mainland. Related shots can be found at Skye shots or Highland Scotland shots. This was one of my first pictures from around Luskentyre - an idyllic view of the distant hills of Harris, with the cluster of cottages that make up the place, and the receding sea leaving behind a pristine beach. Taken from the spit of land near Seilebost, I returned to this spot last year to find that tide and wind has reshaped the foreground to the extent that I couldn't find the exact spot anymore. Another painting from my 2017 Tiree trip - this time Traigh A Chrogain - a quiet beach on the North side of this Scottish island. It was relatively sheltered from the winds that day, so only the smallest of waves. The large peak in the distance is just a 35m high lump, closer than it appears in this otherwise flat landscape. Painted in oil on a 16x12 inch board

The island of Taransay is renowned as that island the BBC did the reality series from in the millennium. That has long since passed, and now it makes a nice backdrop to another of those beaches of Harris (that featured so much on the TV). This view is from a slightly elevated spot on the hill behind Luskentyre, looking across one of the beautiful beaches that surround the settlement. Despite the sunshine a mist hugged the shore making the island appear to float on a white cushion. Painted oil on board measuring 30 inches by 20 inches

I've been meaning to do this one for a while now. It comes from my trips to the Outer Hebrides (Western Isles as they now like to be called). I was walking on South Harris, and stopped at a point on the long winding road that leads to Luskentyre (Losgantir), some three miles in the distance. The tide was half out, and it was a gentle light that day in late Spring. Luskentyre is perhaps my favourite of all the places I've been around the British Isles. I love wild seas (from the safety of land). Dalbeg is a wonderful dramatic little beach on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Islands off the West coast of Scotland. When there's an Atlantic swell wild waves from thousands of miles away come crashing into this little beach leaving anyone watching in awe of the seas power and energy.

Due to ill health I haven't had the chance to get away recently, so this painting (12x12 inches oil on board) comes from the archives of my trips earlier in the year. I was on Tiree (Scotland) back in May 2017, walking the coast, exploring as many of the stunning beaches as I could. Trigh Bhi is in the Southwest corner of the island, and sits amongst semi empty grasslands between two hills - that is except for a cluster of cottages at one end. What caught my attention, and has proved tricky to capture in paint has been the reflections of the building in the wet sand, disrupted by fingers of water from the waves washing in.

Tiree - the land beneath the sea appears to rise out of the sea when approached by ferry. I didn't see this as I flew in from Glasgow on a small plane. Instead I got to see just how low lying the island is (apart from three obvious and isolated hills). Traigh Shorobaidh is a very empty beach - even by Tiree's standards, but the view along it is typical - a grand sky, a thin slither of land and a wide expanse of white beach with a cascade of clear waves rolling onto it. Then there is stranded seaweed, and flocks of little birds running in and out to catch supper while avoiding the waves, their little legs going faster than the eye can see. Meantime the wind blows constantly. No wonder this island is so popular with kite surfers. Painte...

Part of the complex of standing stone sites at Callanish on the island of Lewis, Outer hebrides, Scotland. This amazing ancient site, situated on a hill a mile or two from the main site at Callanish is one of my favorites. There are at least 21 know standing stone sites in the immediate vicinity of Callanish and more spread across the island.
