Redd Foxx better known by his stage name Redd Foxx, was an American stand-up comedian and actor. Foxx gained success with his raunchy nightclub act before and during the civil rights movement. Known as the "King of the Party Records", he performed on more than 50 records in his lifetime.

Filmed in Oakland, California the movie follows the rise and fall of Goldie, whose return from a 5-year prison sentence found his brother involved in Black nationalism. Goldie decides to take an alternative path, striving to become the city's biggest pimp.
