This colorful semi-abstract is a digitally enhanced photo of purple irises and a yellow forsythia in the springtime garden, given painterly type effects to create a piece with an impressionist look and feel.

I chose Georgia, because I love to paint flowers and I LOVE her floral watercolors. I have a long way to go, so I titled this Ode to Georgia 4, and I'm doing some more to try to get just a little closer in style to this master of the medium! I hope you enjoy this and find it an acceptable first step in my quest! I used granulating colors (a blend of Sap, Burnt Sienna, and a little Ultramarine Blue) in the background and did negative painting around some leaves and lifted out some grasses and leaves around the flower. Patersonia occidentalis (Native Iris or Purple Flag). There were quite a few of these on the Short Cut track at the Valley of the Waters at Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains. The misty rain covered them in light raindrops. I was fascinated by the delicate inner centre & considered cropping this shot to focus on it but it made the image a bit small. so you will have to hit the 'View Larger' button to see it better. *Features* Australiana Challenges, Sept 2010. This is my original artwork of purple and white crocus flowers. The crocus flower blooms in early spring. Some varieties bloom in autumn and winter. The spice saffron is obtained from the stigmas of Crocus sativus, an autumn-blooming species. The crocus belongs to the iris family of flowers and is of Mediterranean origin.
