The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, more commonly knows as The Blue Mosque, in Istanbul, Turkey. This incredible piece of Islamic architecture sits as the biggest and most commonly visited mosque in Istanbul, by tourists and locals alike. During prayer time, no photography is allowed inside. Luckily, I visited outside these hours. The mosque was built in the early 1600's as compensation for their failings in their wars throughout Persia. It has six minarets, four of which can be seen in this image. The interior walls and ceiling are lined with over 20,000 ceramic tiles. Hagia Sophia (Turkish: Ayasofya, Greek: Αγία Σοφία; "Holy Wisdom", Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia) is a former patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. Famous in particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture. It was the largest cathedral ever built in the world for nearly a thousand years, until the completion of the Seville Cathedral in 1520. The current building was originally constructed as a church between A.D. 532 and 537 on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian. In 1453, Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks and Sultan Mehmed II ordered the building to be converted into the Ayasofya Mosque.

Chora church (Turkish: Kariye Müzesi, Kariye Camii, or Kariye Kilisesi — the Chora Museum, Mosque or Church) is probably one of the most beautiful museums of Istanbul. It's relatively difficult to find, compared to marvels such as Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi palace, the Basilica Cistern, that are very close the one to the other, but it's an absolute "must see"!!! It's mostly famous for its fantastic mosaics (considered the best sample of late Byzantine art, also know as "The Palaeologian Renaissance") but you can also see some fantastic frescoes, like this one.
