Visiting Germany during my "vacation" from Iraq we went to the famous Funkturm in what used to be East Berlin. I don't think it was supposed to sway in high wind.

Apollo 11 LM ascent stage in lunar orbit. Earth is at centre, with Mars a red dot at right of the Earth. NASA's Apollo 11 mission to the Moon took place from 16-24 July 1969. This mission was the first landing by humans on the Moon, with Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin descending to the surface in the Lunar Module (LM-5, Eagle), while Michael Collins remained in orbit in the Command/Service Module (CSM) some 110 kilometres above the surface. This picture was taken from the CSM of the ascent stage of Eagle as Armstrong and Aldrin returned to the CSM on day 6 of the mission (21 July 1969). The two spacecraft docked and the three astronauts returned to Earth, splashing down in the Pacific on 24 July 1969.

This piece was inspired by Ellen's saying "be kind to one another." A few years ago, I sent her a letter along with this piece asking if I could have tickets to her show for my mom who is a huge fan (even bigger than me, and that's saying something!). My mom has tried since the show began to get tickets with no luck. In exchange I offered Ellen a drawing every week for a year for giveaways or to sell for charity or whatever. It's too bad I never heard anything back from the Ellen show because it would have meant the world to my mom. Anywho, I present this piece to you now. Words to live by. :)

The battle record of the 174th ADA consisted of battle honors earned during the Civil War, WWI, and WWII. However, since the events of 911 the regiment has sent batteries to protect the National Capitol Region using Avenger and Stinger missile systems and has become the core of the 174th ADA Brigade. These battalions of the Ohio National Guard have protected Washington DC from another 911.

I have no idea what this one is. From the printed design I would say I picked this up from a vendor who occasionally was at Camp Victory. It could have been some special commando unit for all I know.

This one is just what it says it is: the 302nd Bn of the 40th Bde of the Iraqi Defense Forces. I don't recall if this is a particularly unimaginative unit patch or if this was supposed to be a standardized design for all units.

A unit of the Iraqi Defense Forces, I have no idea what this unit's true designation is but obviously it is copying U.S. Army convention with its triangle-and-title design and unit number at the peak. Picked this one up because I liked it.

It's traditional for an Army soldier to get his first vehicle before he makes PFC... even if he has to make some compromises.

3rd ADA was originally organized as an artillery unit during the War of 1812. It was reorganized as Coast Artillery Corps during the Spanish-American War, when it was thought that foreign navies might attempt to strike the United States. Units saw service in WWII and the Korean War.
