Solva Quay harbour St Brides bay, Pembrokeshire, Wales Solva is a harbour village on St Brides bay, Pembrokeshire. Nestled in the Pembrokeshire National Park, a few miles from St David’s, it boasts a bustling quay with plenty to do and a charming little village to wander around. Solva Harbour is a good example of a ria — a flooded coastal valley or inlet. Local rocks contain fossils from the Cambrian period, and the village gives its name to the Solva Group, a rock sequence. An electoral ward of the same name exists. This ward extends to Brawdy and in fact some of the community was transferred there. By Paul Thompson Photography

Ore Truck, Morwellham Quay Number of views as of 13th May 2019 = 275. This truck would have been used in the 19th century to transport ore from the Tamar Valley copper mines to ships waiting at Morwellham Quay (Devon, England). The ships would transport the ore down the River Tamar, around Lands End and up to South Wales, which had a plentiful supply of the other essential ingredient required for copper production, i.e. coke to fire the smelting furnaces. Morwellham was established in the 10th century by Benedectine monks from Tavistock Abbey to carry goods to and from Plymouth. Later, tin, lead and silver ore were transported from the Quay. Cotehele is a mediaeval/Tudor house located in the parish of Calstock, Cornwall, England, UK. The grounds stretch down to a quay on the River Tamar where there is an outpost of the National Maritime Museum.

No I haven't spelt the name wrong. This is New Quay in West Wales not Cornwall but it is an area that is equally good for scenery and water-sports. This is the latest in a series of watercolours depicting the most beautiful parts of the UK coast. There may be others that are more beautiful but I haven't visited them yet!

Carnival Day on Wareham Quay Number of views as of 7th January 2017 = 580. The temperatures in Britain have soared in the last couple of weeks and today was no exception, with the mercury nudging 30 degrees C again. Here in Wareham (Dorset, England) it was carnival day today and locals and visitors alike flocked to the charming, saxon town to watch the carnival procession, enjoy the sunshine or even jump off the bridge into the river Frome (not condoning it of course, but people still do it despite the dangers). The Purbeck Gem is moored on the quayside after unloading passengers from Poole, just over 6 miles away by boat. The Old Granary is ever a popular watering hole whilst Lady St Mary (Wareham's parish church) watches over the scene...

Custom House, Exeter Quay Number of views as of 18th February 2017 = 460. Designed by North Devon builder, Richard Allen, the city of Exeter's custom house is one of the oldest such buildings in England, dating from 1680. It is also believed to be the oldest brick building in the city. Here on the quayside, imported goods would be assessed and duties paid before the goods were transported into the city. Home to around 120,000 inhabitants, the city of Exeter is approx 70 miles south-west of Bristol and 37 miles north-east of Plymouth. Date: 8th December 2012. The town is surrounded by outstanding natural beauty; ancient woodlands and heath lands of the New Forest as well and the Solent and views of the Isle of Wight.

A digital pencil drawing of the tide mill on the River Deben quayside at Woodbridge, Suffolk. This is the 'newest' of the mills that have stood on this site having been built in the 1600s. The earliest recorded mill here was in 1170. During th middle ages it was run by the local Augustinian priory but at the time of the Dissolution it passed into the hands of Henry VIII. It operated until 1957 sfter which it became derelict. However, following subsequent restoration it was re-opened in 1973.

New Quay, Cardiganshire, February 2020 Not to be confused with the Cornish resort of Newquay, the seaside town of New Quay (or Cei Newydd) overlooks Cardigan Bay and lies on the Ceredigion Coast Path in West Wales. New Quay's natural harbour provides shelter for fishing boats and other small craft, though in stormy weather, the vessels are more likely to be hauled out of the water to avoid being damaged by wind and waves. Date: 20th February 2020.

The historic Saxon market town of Wareham (Dorset, England) basking in the late afternoon sunshine on a balmy day in October.
