Physically fantastic, yet fundamentally flawed, these fan favorite’s fire usually fizzles out far before the feel finished…F is for Face. Part of my series, The ABC's of Pro Wrestling, these illustrations are an homage to the crazy entertainment sport that is professional wrestling. They are informed visually by mid century underground 60's comics, hot rod illustration art and vintage t-shirt graphics. They are informed ideologically, by the ten-year-old wrestling junkie that lives in the basement of my mind.

Turn-of-the-century American wrestler Martin "Farmer" Burns was famous for such prodigious muscular development of the neck that he often had himself hung by a noose for show. Defeated the original "Strangler" Evan Lewis for the Catch-as-Catch-Can Heavyweight Championship in 1889; also famous for training the formidable Frank Gotch.
