Sidewinder is a fictional town featured in the Stephen King novel The Shining as well as the 1980 film adaptation of King's book, The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick and the 1997 television miniseries, The Shining. Sidewinder is located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado not far from the Overlook Hotel. The Torrance family drove through Sidewinder on their way to the Overlook. After being snowed in, Wendy Torrance maintained contact with the local Forest rangers, who were based out of Sidewinder. It is also the hometown of Annie Wilkes, the antagonist of Stephen King's novel, Misery.

Located on four-plus acres of city owned land in Torrance, California, Skateboard World opened in 1977, making it one of the world's first commercial skate parks. The park predated the burgeoning pro skateboarding boom, and not only helped shape the industry, but also created a blueprint for many other parks in the decade to follow. The park hosted many competitions and events, and was a favorite session spot for countless professional skaters until its untimely demise in 1983.

The Gold Room, or The Gold Ballroom is a large ballroom contained within the Overlook Hotel. The Red Bathroom is attached to the Gold Room. In the book, it was named The Colorado Lounge. The original name was used for the 1980 film's sitting room, which is a room where guests can relax and read or chat. The Gold Room is presumed to be the most haunted room in the hotel, besides Room 217/237.

Danny Torrance has a vision of the word REDRUM appearing on a wall, where it then transforms into the word MURDER, directly below the word REDRUM. He is aware of this as he saw this in a vision prior to arriving at the Overlook Hotel. His first vision is of the hotel, where "a single word appeared in green fire ... REDRUM". Tony also shows Danny the word “REDRUM” “flashing off and on” in the bathroom mirror and the word murder is not seen in a mirror. Murder is seen in the reflection of “a huge clock in a glass bowl materialized in front of [the bathroom mirror]”.

Jack Torrance takes a winter caretaker position at the remote Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, which closes every winter season. After his arrival, manager Stuart Ullman advises Jack that a previous caretaker, Charles Grady, killed his wife, two young daughters and himself in the hotel a decade prior

The California Sunshine was an American soccer club based in Fountain Valley, California that was a member of the American Soccer League. Their first season was 1977, but the team folded in 1981 after four seasons. The California Sunshine was founded with two major philosophies: To field as many American players as possible and to keep profanity off the playing field.

Nestled in Palos Verdes Estates, it's the northernmost sandy beach in the area, contrasting the usual rocky coves and steep cliffs. Surfing is accessible via the Malaga Cove Trail.
