Bridge Of Sighs / Ponte Dei Sospiri Number of views as of 25th January 2017 = 980. Designed by Antoni Contino and built in the early 1600s, this limestone construction is one of the most famous bridges in Venice if not the world. See wikipedia for more information. Date: 27th August 2007. Location: Venice.

I made it through the wilderness

This is one of Venices satellite islands, a short boat trip from the city itself and an ideal place to stay when visiting as it is a bit quieter in the busy tourist season. It is very similar to Venice as it is built around canals and has many historic buildings and it is world famous for the coloured glass it produces in the many glass blowing furnaces on the island. This photo was taken just after sunset and you can see a couple of people making their way home in their boat. Edited in Photoshop CC and Topaz.

Another memory from a visit to Venice, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. This is a busy little corner where two canals intersect and there is a gondola station there with a gondolier waiting for his next customers. The setting sun lights up the colourful buildings and makes lovely reflections in the water. A place I really want to revisit soon. The image was processed in Photoshop CC and Topaz Clarity and Adjust, with several of my own textures added.

In the South Lagoon between Venice and Lido sits the small Italian island of Poveglia that for centuries has been a refuge, stronghold, place of exile and a dumping ground for the diseased, dying and deceased. In 1348 the Bubonic Plague arrived in Venice and Poveglia, like many other small islands, became a quarantine colony. In the late 1800s, the area's mentally ill resided in an asylum in Poveglia. The asylum was poorly constructed and was used as a place of exile rather than rehabilitation.

More about the church: Santa Maria della Salute (English: Saint Mary of Health), commonly known simply as the Salute, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located at Punta della Dogana in the Dorsoduro sestiere. It stands on the narrow finger of Punta della Dogana, between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal, at the Bacino di San Marco, making the church visible when entering the Piazza San Marco from the water. The Salute is part of the parish of the Gesuati and is the most recent of the so-called plague churches.
