It is the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, who oversaw its installation. The clock tower, officially known as the Elizabeth Tower, stands at the northeast corner of the Houses of Parliament and is one of the city's most recognizable symbols. Despite its nickname, Big Ben actually refers to the massive 13.7 ton bell inside the tower, which still tolls hourly to this day. The clock and tower underwent a major renovation in 2017 and was renamed the Elizabeth Tower in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.
