Early Tank Tops

First deep field image released from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). This full-colour infrared image shows galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, which lies 4.6 billion light years from Earth. It is the deepest, most detailed infrared image taken to date (July 2022). The galaxy cluster acts as a gravitational lens, allowing even more distant galaxies (red arcs) to be seen. The light from these galaxies has been travelling for over 13 billion years. The JWST was launched in December 2021. Composite image obtained by the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). A pair of Secretarybirds in the early morning mist, grooming after waking up at the top of an acacia tree. The Secretarybird or Secretary Bird ( Sagittarius serpentarius ) is a large, mostly terrestrial bird of prey. It is instantly recognizable having an eagle like body on crane like legs which increases the bird’s height to around 1.3 m,(4 ft) tall. Lake Nakura National Park, Kenya, East Africa. Watching the sunrise through this weeping willow tree I noticed that it made a wonderful contemporary, modern or even an abstract image. I used a number of layers and textures to enhance the look I was going for.

Operation Crossroads atom bomb test. Mushroom cloud rising from the Baker atomic explosion carried out at Bikini Atoll, in the Pacific, at 21:34 UTC on 24 July 1946 as part of Operation Crossroads. Baker was the first underwater nuclear detonation. The yield was thousands of tons of TNT, with the column of water vapour reaching thousands of metres into the air. The explosion and wave of water overwhelmed and sank unmanned test ships left in the vicinity. These ships are seen across lower centre. This image was obtained around 1.5 seconds after detonation.

US aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright produced a series of aircraft models, starting with the first successful flight in a heaver-than-air machine (1903).
