Grasses Tank Tops

Native Grasslands 1 is part of a series of monoprints with Australian Native Grasslands as their theme. In the Australian Capital Territory only 3% of native grasslands remain. The monoprint was produced on a gelli plate using acrylic flow paints.

The Odonata (dragonflies, darters and damselflies) are incapable of supporting body weight using the sum of their four wings' maximal aerodynamic force coefficients under steady-state conditions... and so as such grasses provide them with a valid excuse for a pit stop!

Enchanting insight

It seems that its not as yet blindingly obvious to Governments that when you destroy habitats which in themselves are created in order to support the creatures which have learnt and evolved to survive on them... that you indeed destroy the very fabric and the lineage which it created. Putting it in layman terms - 'Where there's muck there's brass and where there's copper as in this 'small copper' fortune... then there's grass! If we apply 'basic thinking' and in most instances this is needed ~ then leaving grasses to thrive right through till late autumn ~ allows beautiful butterflies like these to do what they best do, and that is helping flowers to pollinate. When you destroy grassy areas the areas become like 'arid deserts'...

We all need some form of shelter from the elements... and when it rains in Wales... it usually pours!!! With this thinking in mind - its not just us humans that need protection... Wildlife and even the insects need somewhere to dip out and find solace and serenity during such deluges... If we continue to remove the architecture which supports, nourishes and enriches the lives and livelihoods of wildlife ~ whether it be insects or otherwise... How can we expect - the foods and nutrition which supports us - to continue..? After-all its all their 'pollination work' which supports us... Grasses, woodlands, and wild spaces support them... so yet again, stave off with the grass cutters - and give nature a break..!

Although this slightly off square format doesn't exactly obey the rules of composition the subject matter lends itself to the non-conventional shape expressed and hopefully helps to draw the eye into the body shape of the lacewing and the slightly geometric shape of the lens flare captured.
