The Thing is a 1982 American science fiction horror film directed by John Carpenter from a screenplay by Bill Lancaster. Based on the 1938 John W. Campbell Jr. novella Who Goes There?, it tells the story of a group of American researchers in Antarctica who encounter the eponymous "Thing", a parasitic extraterrestrial life-form that assimilates, then imitates, other organisms. Celebrate the most tragic chapter in Antarctic Scientific Research history with this commemorative group photo of the team from Outpost 31, all of whom mysteriously disappeared in the winter of 1982, leaving but one survivor, a plucky husky/wolf cross called 'Jed'. Jed was of course famously adopted by then US President Ronald Reagan, who brought him to live at the White House from that point on. Alien conspiracy theories attached to a dramatic shift in White House policy shortly thereafter coinciding with Jed's sudden disappearance are completely untrue. Completely.

These characters are inspired by the deadly trio of Lightning, Thunder and Rain also known as The Three Storms from the 1986 cult classic, Big Trouble in Little China. "Play your cards right you live to talk about it!"

We all know that RJ MacReady survived at the end of The Thing and he went on to create his own exterminating company to take care of any future Thing problems

These characters were inspired by the 1986 cult classic, Big Trouble in Little China. There's Jack Burton (2nd variation without weapons) as the big goofball all American trucker who believes he's the hero everybody needs and the villainous, Lo Pan who is a powerful wizard cursed with no flesh and is seven feet tall. Then there is little old, Egg Shen with his six demon bag who is equally a powerful wizard and Lo Pan's eternal nemesis. The only female is the lovely, spirited Gracie Law who is a lawyer from Chinatown protecting immigrant rights and lastly, the true hero of the bunch is Wang Chi. His pursuit to rescue his beloved Miao Yin is what all the trouble is about.

Lo Pan (portrayed by veteran actor James Hong) is the main antagonist in John Carpenter's 1986 action/comedy film Big Trouble in Little China. An evil sorcerer who just wants to have flesh again in order to rule the universe, Lo Pan has a legion of followers who will die to protect him and three skilled martial artists with supernatural and elemental powers at his side, named Thunder, Lightning and Rain whom together are known as The Three Storms.

You’re in Antarctica at a research base and a dog comes sprinting out of the whiteness pursued by a helicopter with a crazy Swede (actually, they’re Norwegian, Mac) taking shots at it from a high-powered rifle. What do you do? Do you try to understand what the crazy Swede is doing trying to kill this dog, or do you stupidly shoot the frantic foreigner in the head and give the mutt a friendly pat? If you answered to the latter, well, bad luck – because you’re about to be “assimilated” by an alien life form. Should have learnt to speak Swedish (I mean, Norwegian…)
