St Mary’s Island and Lighthouse is situated just north of the River Tyne and this image was taken just after sunrise on a bitterly cold December morning. The light was very bright and this encouraged walkers and families to cross the causeway which is revealed at low tide

St Mary's Lighthouse and island lie north of the River Tyne and Whitley Bay on the North Sea coast of England. The lighthouse is no longer in operation and is now a museum and tourist attraction which is only accessible at low tide when the causeway is not under water. The image was taken on a very cold December morning shortly after sunrise with a lovely soft light and was converted to black and white to emphasise the drama of the scene. The image was taken almost at high tide.
