Away from the obvious jagged peaks of the Cuillin, the isle of Skye has plenty of interesting scenery. On the West of the island (on the Durinish peninsula) you can find two distinctive flat topped peaks with steep sides. In English they are known as Macleod's Tables. The name relates to the clan Macleod, who I understand had gatherings on the summits. This view is from just outside Dunvegan. In reality the grassy peninsula holds a caravan site, but in painting this scene I've removed them to focus on the scenery. Painted in oil on board 18 x 14 inches.

The famous Fairy Pools of the Isle of Skye. While going in the morning wasn't the best for light, it was certainly the best time of day to go if you want to beat the crowds. We were some of the first people there and it was great to be able to see it without a rush of people around us. After all, that's how the fairies would have liked it!
