Spectacular Tank Tops

Originally captured on film in February 1984, this is an image of the Langdale Valley, looking up from Elterwater to the Langdale Pikes, which are in Cumbria, United Kingdom. The last time I was there, nothing much had changed except that it was a bit more crowded. The valley is one of the most popular in the Lake District, especially popular with fell walkers (hikers) who set off from here to climb to the fell tops around the valley. The word 'fell' here is a reference to the mountains, the word itself has its origins in a time when Norsemen settled the land in the early middle ages. Another road side sight seeing

Water pouring over the rocks at the head of the beautiful Tvindefossen Waterfall in Norway with a spectacular drop of 381 ft (116m). The waterfall is found near the town of Voss, just by the E16 road to Flåm and local folklore claims its waters are the fountain of youth!

A yacht sailing across the northern end of Lake Garda in Northern Italy from the town of Limone. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy and stretches up in a northerly direction to the Dolomite Mountains which, at this northern end surround it and sweep down to its shores. Just further north at the tip of the lake lies the town of Riva Del Garda with its many shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. This image has a textured finish in the style of a coloured pencil drawing.

The Duomo di Siena in Italy is spectacular and don't miss to see it when you are there. Construction on the cathedral began in 1196 and was completed in 1348. Since then it has be used as a Roman Catholic Marian Church and houses many important paintings and sculptures. Cruising in a zodiac at 1am in 24 hour sunlight we were able to pass close to several huge tabular icebergs which were at Cape Roget. The light at this time of day was wonderful and the sea took on the colour of bronze. Expedition into the Ross Sea, Antarctica. Canon EOS, zoom lens. Large red Zygocactus flower in profile. The Zygo family are a group of cactus plants with long crab-like leaves. All of these plants have spectaculat flowers. This particular one flowers prolifically in spring with flowers reaching around 14cm in diameter. Canon EOS, zoom lens.

Every autumn we enjoy the spectacular beauty of the fall colors. The mixture of red, purple, orange, and yellow result from chemical processes that take place in the tree as the seasons change from summer to winter. Four leaf pigments are responsible for leaf color and its changes in the autumn: chlorophylls, carotenoids, tannins, and anthocyanins.
