The old farm dam is the lowest point in the 100 Acres reserve, in Park Orchards, Victoria, Australia. This pair of Great Egrets were in full breeding plumage, and looked gorgeous reflected in the still water. The White Faced Heron in the background looks miffed - I think the Egrets stole his lunch!

Took this photo a couple of weeks ago at The Grange Reserve in Clayton South, Victoria, Australia. None of my favourite reference books had it listed, so started to think it might be a weed - til I looked up Geranium in Flora Of Melbourne. There it was - Geranium Solanderi, or Austral Cranes Bill. The leaves look like Geranium, but the flowers are much smaller than the garden variety - very pretty though!

The Bush Stone Curlews at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia, have been very busy. Dad was rushing around trying to feed this fluffy chick - while Mum was sitting on another egg!

The Murrindindi Cascades are near the top of the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve in the Toolangi State Forest near Yea, in Victoria, Australia. This Alpine river flows over a series of rapids and waterfalls, creating this chaotic turmoil over the rocks.

This is a wattle called Prickly Moses ( Acacia Verticillata). The branches are covered with prickly thorns - so it lives up to its name! Wattles are everywhere in Spring in Victoria - their yellow or creamy flowers really light up the place after the gloom of Winter!

Proof of how smart spiders are! I was taking a macro shot of this Common Bird Orchid (Chiloglottis Valida) but I kept seeing these fine lines across the flower. I realised a very smart spider had spun it's web around the flower to make sure any visiting insect became lunch! Found at Hochkins Ridge Flora Reserve in Croydon North, Victoria, Australia.

Hazel, the Koala joey, is about a year old now - including 6 months in the pouch. She's still growing so is always hungry! Hazel lives at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia.
