If you lived in St. Louis during the '70s, you probably remember Marty Mayrose 'The Meat Man' or at least remember his "I'm a meat man, and a meat man knows, the finest meats, ma'am, are Mayrose" jingle. Marty was created in the late '60s by a local adman to help promote the Mayrose meat products. Initially appearing in print ads, and then in animated TV spots before becoming a fixture on product packaging, Marty was somewhat of a local celebrity. Decades later, STL locals can still find Marty hanging out everywhere from old markets to dive bars as countless promotional items from statuettes and thermometers to ashtrays and open/closed signs were produced over the years.

Langoustine (Nephrops norvegicus), coloured X-ray. This crustacean is also known as the Norway lobster or Dublin Bay prawn. It feeds on other crustaceans and fish. It lives in shallow burrows in the sediment of off-shore waters from Iceland to Portugal and the Mediterranean Sea. It is caught using trawlers and creels (lobster traps) and eaten as scampi. It grows up to 24 centimetres long.

Meadowbrook Meat Co. was founded by J.R. Wordsworth in 1947 as a pork processor catering to the local market in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. By 1966, Meadowbrook had expanded into a range of fine meats and was a top regional supplier thought the south. The company continued to grow, becoming a leading food service distributor, providing supply chain services to thousands of national and regional chain restaurants across the continental United States. By the time the company was sold in 2012, it was operating 35 distribution facilities with over 3,300 employees nationwide.

In 1953, Al Berger opened up The Burger Bar in downtown San Jose, creating a popular spot for college students to grab a bite. Over the next few years, Al opened up two more locations. In 1956, he opened the first Burger Pit in Cupertino that featured a charcoal fired grill. The Burger Pit was a hit, and Al opened more than 25 locations throughout the San Jose area over the years where folks could get their charcoal broiled Steerburgers and flat-iron steaks. In the mid-80s, most of the locations were sold to a national fast food chain, but Al kept the primary location on Blossom Hill Road, leaving his son to run the show after retiring in 1986. The Burger Pit enjoyed a run of over 70 years before sadly closing their doors in 2024.
