Concorde Tapestries

The Concorde is a is a British–French turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airliner that was operated from 1976 until 2003. It had a maximum speed over twice the speed of sound, at Mach 2.04 (1,354 mph or 2,180 km/h at cruise altitude), with seating for 92 to 128 passengers.

The Place de la Concorde is one of the major public squares in Paris, located at the eastern end of the Champs-Élysées. Measuring 8.64 hectares in area, it is the largest square in the French capital. The place was designed in 1755 as a moat-skirted octagon between the Champs-Elysées to the west and the Tuileries Garden to the east. The area was named the Place Louis XV to honor the king at that time, and was decorated with many statues and fountains. At the north end of the square, two magnificent identical stone buildings were constructed (separated by rue Royale). On March 2, 1969 at 15h40 min and 11 s, exactly, the "great white bird" Concorde number 001 took off from the Toulouse-Blagnac airfield. The Legend was born ! This design was created especially for the lovers of the mythical plane, The Famous Concorde.

This image is of Concorde 001 and 002. These were the pre-production Concordes and had a shorter tail, different nose and center door location than the production Concordes. 001 can be seen at the French air museum at Le Bourget Airport and 002 can be seen in the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton, England.

Concorde in Boston, 1975. Concorde was a supersonic passenger jet airliner developed jointly by the UK and France. Powered by turbojet engines, its top speed was over twice the speed of sound. Its first commercial flight was in 1976, and it was retired from service in 2003. A total of 20 Concordes were built, with airliner services operated by British Airways and Air France. This is Concorde F-WTSA, one of the two pre-production aircraft. It first flew on 10 January 1973 from Toulouse, France, making a total of 314 flights. It was retired on 20 May 1976. The livery on the side of the aircraft is that of British Airways. Photographed on 21 February 1975, at Logan International Airport, Boston, USA.

It's hard to find a bad angle from which to photograph Paris, and some of my crooked photos of the city, like this one of the Rue de Rivoli, are my favourites.

The Place de la Concorde is one of the major public squares in Paris, France, and the largest square in the French capital. It is located at the eastern end of the Champs-Élysées. For more info on it, please refer to my previous images with the title "Place De La Concorde". At each corner of the octagonal square there stands a statue representing a French town. This specific one shown here represents the Town of Strasbourg (located at the northeast corner of the square on the Rue de Rivoli side. It was designed by James Pradier, who took his model to be Juliette Drouet, who was his mistress before becoming Victor Hugo's . Lamp posts have become part of Paris’ identity, so much so that one can easily recognise the French capital by their design. It is really no surprise that Paris’ historical lamp posts are famous throughout the world for providing atmosphere and elegance on the city’s streets. The one shown here is located on Place de la Concorde; a candelabra style lamp post with incredibly intricate and amazing details top to bottom. All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
