The aparatus which puts the nets over the vines is on the back of a 4WD. Its spectacular to watch.The nets cover 4 rows at a time and are taken off before picking.

This scene was once painted by Hans Heysen. Avril Thomas tried to get into the very spot where he may have sat to paint the picture.For two weeks in August 1925, after the death of their third daughter, Heysen and his family visited the resort town of Victor Harbor, on the Fleurieu Peninsula south of Adelaide. Here, he painted the watercolour Petrel Cove. Sitting on the grass of the saddle of The Bluff at Rosetta Head Heysen painted this winter landscape looking south-west across Petrel Cove towards King Head and Newland Head. It's hard to miss the Bluff when you arrive in Victor Harbor on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. It's very prominent and can be seen from all over the area. The Bluff is also a famous geological landmark. The headland is granite that came from deep in the earth's crust about 500 million years ago. The boulders that sit on top of the Bluff were carried there by ice and the smooth shape of the Bluff's profile was also caused by ice erosion. On a vineyard this is an important instrument in the lead up to harvest. It tells us the sugar content in the grapes, so we know the optimal time to pick. The creation of the 'Marino Rocks' oil painting is from a reference photo I took while squatting down on the rocks of the Marino Rocks beach, Adelaide, South Australia. I captured the rocks, rock pools and the distant waves rolling the water in with the bright blue sky above. It was a bright sunny day with the sun shining on the rocks revealing their variety of colour. This is a very peaceful, bold and colourful scene.

I took the reference photo while going for a walk around Granite Island, a small island off Victor Harbor, South Australia. In the painting I wanted to capture the beautiful view including its unique granite rocks and the vast ocean continuing into the horizon.

Nardoo is widespread, yet uncommon, it grows in wet areas in all states of temperate mainland Australia and it's found growing in habitats from lake sides, to shallow, muddy roadside depressions. Dried up plants, which can look dead, seem to resurrect themselves as winter rains arrive. Individual plants spread by means of a creeping stem. It survives long, hot, dry summers and grows in wet situations. It's one of those typically Australian plant oddities. It looks like a clover, but it's not.
