When we arrived, Cole's men were staging a gun battle with Endicott who was holed up in the mine shack with pistols and a shotgun. We were halfway up the steps that led into the Sourdough Saloon when we were pushed back by four cowboys that were busy throwing a helpless citizen into the street. "'Stay out and don't come back!" said one of them as he tossed his hat into the muddy street. We helped him to his feet and handed him his hat. "Thank you, little girl. I'm Will Endicott. I'm going to git my gun and come back here."

I said, "Turn around three times and close your eyes And soon you will be close to the skies. Make that which was small, Grow and be so very tall. Alakazim, Alakazam!" She did the turnaround and Polly became as large as ever. We hopped on Polly and flew high overhead and followed the road. We could see a quintet of bandits robbing the stage and running off with the strong box. We circled a few times as I wanted see where they were going.

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. February 18, 1848 Dear Diary, We rode the stage back to Coloma that afternoon. Posters of Rattlesnake Cedric, Mad Dog Zeke, and me were posted up and down the road with warnings not to fire a gun in the town. The voting was closed and Judge Slade was busy counting the ballets on the boardwalk. A banjo player sat on a barrel and sang a song to a tiny gathering of children. "Mad Dog and Rattlesnake were the meanest deputies of the West. They carried no guns because they were quicker than the rest. They carried skillets and they would whack you on the head. Bandits learned to run from them; otherwise they were dead!" Mad Doggggggg! Rattlesnaaaaaaake! ...

She said, "Ma Parker is taking care of three little orphaned children in a tent outside of town. She takes in children and treats them as though they were her own. "She is a proud woman and would not accept charity." I told her I had an idea and would take care of it. Zeke said, "We must do something." In the 1850s Australia had gold fever. People flocked from all over the world to stake a claim during the gold rush but only the lucky few were lucky enough to find anything. The frustrations of life on the goldfields were compounded by the heavy handed approach to licensing and taxation that led to the Eureka uprising of 1854.

The trio pulled their weapons from the holsters and sent bullets flying toward us. Mad Dog Zeke and Rattlesnake Cedric ricocheted the flurry of bullets off the skillets. Goldie slipped and fell in horse dung and ended up with it all over her clothes and face. Mrs. Endicott ran down the street carrying what was left of her dignity and Goldie pushed back into the Sourdough Saloon. She grabbed a beer and splashed it over her head in an attempt to wash off the dung. She looked at me with pure hatred. "You pushed us out there and look at me!" The bartender handed her a mirror and held back a smirk. She took one look and cried, "I hate you!" and began hurling beer glasses at me. Tammy ( the Little Doll Girl) has sewn western outfits for all and you can see that Tammy became sheriff of Coloma and made her friends deputies. Soon they will overcome dirty deeds and nasty tricks and clean up the town as only they can do.

I could see they were happy to see us flying overhead and decided to land in the center of the village. Chief Wanakuka and his wife, Lanacua ran down the balcony to greet us. They were amazed to see all of us flying upon Polly. She was a hit among the Kakuna and a large crowd gathered to admire her. Polly, of course, loved every minute of it. Lanacua said, "You must stay and have a luncheon with us." Zeke and Cedric were hungry ( they loved to eat all the time) and we agreed to stay. Keep Out is a sepia tone photographic art print of a replica of the entrance to an old mine. The setting is Tortilla Flats, located east of the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area up in the Superstition Mountains. Once a stage coach stop, Tortilla Flats is more of a tourist attraction with a great restaurant, small museum and gift shop all looking like an old west town including old wagons, wagon wheels and a replica of an entrance to a mine. I used a sepia tone finish and texture on the photograph for that old rustic look. The sepia brown tones originated with film photography as part of the process to develop the prints in the 1800’s.
