The 45th Fires Brigade is a modular field artillery brigade of the United States Army headquartered in Mustang, Oklahoma. It is a part of the Oklahoma Army National Guard. The unit was again redesignated 45th Fires Brigade in 2008 with the implementation of Army Transformation. Just as the 45th IBCT and the 90th Troop Command, the brigade retained the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 45th Infantry Division, only designing and approving its own SSI in 1997.

The 149th Infantry Regiment was in federal service from 7 January 1941, to 9 November 1945. The 149th was asssigned to the 38th Infantry Division (Cyclone) Division and acted as te spearhead of the division.

At the Chosin Reservoir area, A brutal 17-day battle in freezing weather soon followed from between 27 November and 13 December, 30,000 United Nations Command troops (later nicknamed "The Chosin Few") were encircled and attacked by about 120,000 Chinese troops who had been ordered to destroy the UN forces. The UN forces were able to break out of the encirclement and to make a fighting withdrawal to the port of Hungnam, inflicting heavy casualties on the Chinese. The 9th Division was reactivated on 1 February 1966, and arrived in South Vietnam on 16 December 1966 from Fort Riley, Kansas. On deployment the division was assigned to the III Corps Tactical Zone of Vietnam where it commenced operations in Dinh Tuong and Long An Provinces (6 January-31 May 1967) in Operation Palm Beach. Its area of operations was in the rivers and canals of the Mekong Delta from 1967 to 1972. Operating deep within the Viet Cong (VC)–controlled Delta, the Division was charged with protecting the area and its population against VC insurgents and ensuring the success of the South Vietnamese government's pacification program.
