I know it should be year of the Ox but it doesn’t help that 牛(niu) does rhyme with Coo (Cow). Seeing as a yearly zodiac painting seems to be a regular occurrence, only felt fitting to give the highland cow some love! According to the Chinese calendar on February 12th 2021 the Year of the Ox will begin!

"Musical Swan" And the Cor Anglais finally makes an appearance! The initial dilemma was how to paintover the other pieces without making it look like a swan's head on a duck's body! But that's honestly the joy of "painting" problem solving through the process into finding that solution.

Quite frankly I'm embarrassed that I didn't know of the animal association to the oboe sooner - although I'm sure a mallard would try it's best to appease any expectations on it's signature piece from Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf.
