Bandilngan (Windjana Gorge) is a national park in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, located a relatively short drive from the very remote Gibb River Road (an adventure in its own right) an is full of very docile freshwater crocodiles. I was there for an amazing sun set fairly recently and came away with this photograph!

Driving through the mountains after a spring snow storm I was captivated by this fleeting vista. The afternoon sun was illuminating the lower portions of Grays and Torreys while their summits remained obscured by the remaining storm clouds. Luckily I had my camera along and was able to capture the scene before it faded away. At 14,270’ and 14,267’ Grays and Torreys are the two highest peaks along the Continental Divide and some of the more popular and accessible 14er’s in Colorado given their proximity to I-70 and Denver.

Portland Breakwater Light, sometimes referred to a Bug Light Park Lighthouse, stands as a living history. Its role as a marker of the end of the rocky breakwater shielding Portland Harbor began in 1855. In 1875 it was replaced, and at only 26-feet tall, it is known for its diminutive size and its elegance. It continues to be cared for and enjoyed by those visiting the park and those passing by on the waters of Casco Bay – its 250 mm optic exhibits a white flash every four seconds, welcoming visitors to South Portland and historic Portland Harbor.

The Mount Coolidge Lookout and Fire Tower was one of the last projects completed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s. Built of local stone, the tower rests atop a 6,023-foot peak and is still used today as a fire lookout and dispatch center. As the highest point in central Custer State Park, it offers breathtaking 360-degree views from the top of the fire tower. On a clear day, you can see the Badlands nearly 60 miles away in the east.

Obsidian Dome in Mono County California as seen from 900 feet. This Obsidian dome was formed around 600 years ago. Walking along the top makes you feel like you are walking on another planet.
