The moraine-filled valley of the Tasman Glacier in the South Island's Mackenzie Country. It was hard to even comprehend how big the glacier, now starting many kilometers behind us, once was.

May years ago before hurricane Dorian, I stayed at Bluff House one Christmas, I made good friends that Christmas and one commissioned me to paint Bluff House. Many years later the painting was sold to Bluff House and now hangs in the New Bluff House.

I live in Brixham and I am lucky to have beautiful countryside of Devon around me and 5 minutes away the fishing port of Brixham. The Breakwater is a favourite place for fishermen to try their luck. The Breakwater has a famous Victorian lighthouse at the end . It's half a mile long going out into Torbay and a favourite place for locals and tourist to walk and take on the sea air, occasionally seeing the resident seals. Enjoy. Mac ? ? ? There are a lot of badgers in Devon, our home boa4ders a field and we ofter get badgers, hedgehogs, rabbits , foxes and the occasional ferret comming into our garden.

While we were boating on the Tasman Glacier Lake, we were lucky enough to see an iceberg roll over, revealing the gorgeous blue ice that had previously been hidden underwater. This was one of the few other boats that was in the area at the time -- its lucky passengers got to reach out and touch it. Later, our boat pulled up next to it and we were able to feel how smooth the ice was, as well as looking through its translucent blue ice at the sky. A very memorable experience!

I asked the author if I could use them to create paintings, and he agreed. This is one such painting from the sketches.

WWI pilot Leigh Brintnell formed Mackenzie Air Service in 1932 in Edmonton, Alberta. Brintnell offered both passenger and cargo service to remote mines and trading posts throughout the Canadian Northwest. His first contract was flying fresh produce from Edmonton to the remote Eldorado Mines, and eventually would maintain daily scheduled flights linking Edmonton with key points in Goldfields, Yellowknife, Gordon Lake, Port Radium, and Coppermine. Known for flying places otherwise unserved, Mackenzie Air Service was a pioneer in bush pilot transportation services that would eventually operate one of the largest modern aircraft fleets in Canada. Mackenzie Air Service would be purchased by Canadian Pacific Airlines in the early '40s.
