The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains our Solar System, consisting of billions of stars, planets, and other celestial objects. It appears as a faint band of light stretching across the night sky, composed of the combined light of countless stars. The Milky Way is spiral-shaped, with a central bulge surrounded by spiral arms containing stars, gas, and dust. Earth is located in one of these spiral arms, known as the Orion Arm or Local Spur.

Looking towards the center of the Milky Way as it rises in the early summer sky. the horizon is being illuminated by the light pollution from Los Angeles hundreds of miles away.

My family has been doing a family vacation up to the Whitefish Chain of Lakes every year for +20 years now. I have always loved how beautiful it is up there especially on calm dark nights when the lake mirrored the sky. It is what inspired me to paint this piece while up there this year (2020) as well as take time to photograph other beautiful things about the lakes that are like a second home. More to come soon!

If you have never seen the Arizona desert especially at dusk when the orange rocks turn purple and the milky way comes out make sure to add it to your list of things to see. Being a Minnesota woman I was surprised at how moved I was when I went to Arizona to visit my in laws and of course do a lot of hiking ^_^ I seriously love Arizona. I never knew I would love the heat and the dry desert habitat almost as much as Minnesota. I made this as a gift for my Mother-In-Law to capture our magical dusk hike through the desert and botanical gardens. I can't wait to go back.
