Bernadette Soubirous reported the Marian Apparitions at Lourdes, France at the grotto of Massabielle in 1858. In 1958, Pope Pius XII issued the encyclical Le pèlerinage de Lourdes The pilgrimage to Lourdes on the 100th anniversary of the apparitions. Pope John Paul II visited Lourdes three times; Pope Benedict XVI visited Lourdes on 15 September 2008 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the apparitions. Soubirous was canonized a saint in 1933 by Pope Pius XI. Miracles, miraculous healings are reported through the Holy Water and Rosary Prayers.

This classic athletic script design features Montréal, Québec, Canada. Montréal is the largest city in Canada's Québec province. It’s set on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and named after Mt. Royal, the triple-peaked hill at its heart.

Gargoyles have guarded Paris since ancient times. During the day, they look at the city from Notre Dame, and at night, as one legend says, they leave their home and fly in the sky. There is also a legend that says that the gargoyle is a dragon-like snake, which lived in France, in the Seine River. She spewed water with great force, overturned fishing boats and flooded houses. Scientists believe that the gargoyles acting as drainpipes are just architectural fantasy inspired by dark medieval traditions. Having seen the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral lit up at night on the way from the airport to my apartment on Rue Dauphine, it became my first choice of photographic subjects in Paris. It was my first 'wow' moment in a fantastic trip & looked just as good in daylight with spring blossoms to enhance the view. Photographed with a Canon 400D in Paris, France. HDR image tonemapped in Photomatix. I took a total of 1770 photos during a 9 day whirlwind trip to Paris & London. One of the things you can see in front of Notre Dame Cathedral is the bronze equestrian statue - Charlemagne et ses Leudes (Charlemagne and his guards), which was created by brothers Louis and Charles Rochet in 1878. This bronze statue of Charlemagne shows the King of the Franks on horseback. He is holding a lance or staff while being guided by two leudes, which are believed to be the figures of Oliver and Roland. Charlemagne holds an important place in European history, being the first Emperor of Western Europe around 800AD, known at that time as the Carolingian Empire. The Statue of Charlemagne is one of several interesting things to see around Notre Dame and is well worth a few minutes of your time when visiting the attractions...
