The sun sets over the harbour at Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula. I seem to have been very lucky with sunsets there -- and the gorgeous setting definitely doesn't hurt either!

When we woke up on our second morning at Welcome Flat, we were stunned to see this. The clouds were finally clearing after a day of heavy rain that had kept us huddled in the hut. The only downside was it meant we had to leave the hut, which had its own natural hot pools, and hike 17km back to reality!

An urban HDR, and an image that would not have worked without the bus stopping here. York Minster can be seen in the background. The odd colours and partial ghosting that can appear on people that have moved slightly in this level of HDR has been removed by painting back in the figures from one of the original images. I got this shot after a climb up a small hill on the Kaikoura Peninsula that was a little harder than I expected. I ended up having to hold on to the fence to pull myself up the steep path because otherwise, for every step I took, I slid back the equivalent of two steps on the loose, parched soil. However, as you can see, the view at the top was definitely worth it!

What's it like to stand underneath New Zealand's tallest waterfall? Well, you can't hear anything but the roar of the falls as the water hurtles from 580m above you, and you get a shower too -- which feels wonderful if you've just spent the last 3 days hiking in the backcountry! This waterfall is an hour's walk off the main Milford Track but it is well worth it. After you've crossed Mackinnon Pass, you'll find Quintin Lodge -- the hut for the guided walkers. From here, signs will direct you off to the left to the falls. This turnoff is about 45 minutes before you reach the independent walkers' hut.

The best known street in York, shown at night with a near full moon (shot from the next road as it did not appear here!). Some of the buildings date from the 14th century, and the name derives from a shortening of the Anglo-Saxon "fleshammels" - shelves where flesh is kept. We were lucky enough to have to wait at the beach while other people arrived for our bioluminescent bay tour on Vieques. This scene was even better with the salsa music blaring from the bar nearby!

The famous frontal of York Minster in fine HDR. As with all my HDR images, fine details such as people are painted back in from one single image to create a more photorealistic image. York Minster is one the largest gothic cathedrals in Europe. The present cathedral was begun in 1230, but the site had been used for religeous buildings since 627. Trips to the roof are arduous, but give a great view of the surrounding vale of York. Taken November 2010 at the banks of the River Ouse in York, England. The background is the north-west base of Skeldergate Bridge. Reflections captured on a perfectly still autumn day on Akaroa Harbour in Canterbury, NZ.

We woke up to rain on our morning in Stonehaven in 2009, but by the time we were leaving Dunnottar Castle, it looked like this! I thought this was a beautiful representation of Scotland in May -- reasonable weather and lots of gorse!

It's November now in Brisbane, which means the flowers on the jacarandas are scattered across the ground and the frangipani trees are in full bloom. I love this flower, both for its look and its gorgeous smell, and it is one of many things that make me instantly think of summer.

I love the patterns you can find in the most everyday things, like a bunch of flowers that you walk past on your way into the shops.

This shot is one of my favorites from the Queen Charlotte Track in New Zealand's Marlborough Sounds. The walk covers 71km along Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. This was the first lookout on the track after leaving Ship Cove, and while it wasn't the hardest to reach, it was certainly one that stuck in my mind because it was the first aerial view I got of the spectacular landscape I was hiking through!
