Canon Rebel T3i. The yellow-bellied slider (Trachemys scripta scripta) is a land and water turtle belonging to the family Emydidae. This subspecies of pond slider is native to the southeastern United States, specifically from Florida to southeastern Virginia, and is the most common turtle species in its range. It is found in a wide variety of habitats, including slow-moving rivers, floodplain swamps, marshes, seasonal wetlands, and permanent ponds. Wilmington, North Carolina USA. New life by a pond.

Koi , or more specifically nishikigoi are colored varieties of the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) that are kept for decorative purposes in outdoor koi ponds or water gardens. In recent years, there has been a trend to distinguish the East Asian Amur carp (Cyprinus rubrofuscus) as a separate species among the common carp, so the scientific name koi may be changed in the future.

A return to wildlife watercolours. From the start of this year I've been fortunate to have taken on a job where one of the daily tasks is to feed the garden's birds. This has allowed me the opportunity to capture some primary photographic reference that I've then painted from. When it comes to wildlife paintings, I like to work in watercolours because it adds a bit more of that hand painted element. Mistakes can be made and it only adds to the final product. I also worked these paintings a little more illustrative by adding in some thick outlines, cross hatching where it was welcomed and a little touch of pencils and paint pens. This fish is very good at jumping. However, he apologizes if you chose to sit in the splash zone. Splashing makes him happy, but he knows some people don't appreciate it very much. He's a very considerate fish, you see.

The painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) is the most widespread native turtle of North America. It lives in slow-moving fresh waters, from southern Canada to Louisiana and northern Mexico, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The turtle is the only species of the genus Chrysemys, which is part of the pond turtle family Emydidae. Fossils show that the painted turtle existed 15 million years ago. Four regionally based subspecies (the eastern, midland, southern, and western) evolved during the last ice age.
