A view over the port of Stavanger in southwestern Norway. It is the fourth largest city in the country and has a history stretching back to medieval times. Starting life as a village it grew into a fishing port. It was the discovery of offshore oil and gas that made it grow into the major port it is today. The old town and its harbour has old, colourful houses and quayside buildings, the city itself having an eclectic mix of old and new, This image has been finished as a pastel sketch.

The port of Invergordon which lies in the Cromarty Firth on the north east coast of Scotland. This is a deep water port and as such is ideal for the maintenance and servicing of oil rigs A number of these line the way into the port and as in the image, tower over the dockyards. It is a cruise ship destination as it is a gateway to the highlands including nearby Loch Ness. Captured from the bow end as the ship is about to tie up at the dockside under the setting sun.

Port Townsend is a destination noted for its Victorian houses, historic architecture, wooden boats, excellent weather, scenic beauty, marine science center, Fort Worden State Park and much more. This Port Townsend design will please anyone who loves the vibrant vintage atmosphere of Port Townsend.

Juvenile Black Crowned Night Heron by Debra Martz ........................... A visit to the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas, Texas always delivers for the birdwatching fans! On this January day, I didn't notice this young night heron tucked in the reeds just a few feet away from the boardwalk at first. I actually walked right on by as I was watching some ducks on the opposite side. But as they say, turn-around and look all directions before moving on because you might have just missed something else.
