It is 1.7 miles from the junction of US Highway 163 and Monument Valley Tribal Park Road, to the Entrance Station of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. At times traffic can flow slowly, as the herd of motor homes and cars in front of you lumber up, one at a time, to pay their entrance fee. The eye wanders, as you wait, because the west end of that eastbound Winnebago in front of you is just not that picturesque. What catches your eye is this, the view out your left side window, of mesas, buttes and pinnacles with names like Stagecoach, Big Chief, and Eagle, among others. This scene is just a taste of what you're waiting to see, making that wait seem just a little too long.

Charles (CM) Russell, the “cowboy artist”, created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes set in the Western United States. He lived and worked among the cowboys and the Blood Indian tribe in his younger years. This painting is called “Innocent Allies” and depicts 3 horses waiting patiently while their riders rob a stage coach.

The Tabard was an inn in Southwark established in 1307 that stood on the east side of Borough High Street, at the road's intersection with the ancient thoroughfare to Canterbury and Dover. It was built for the Abbot of Hyde, who purchased the land to construct a place for himself and his ecclesiastical brethren to stay when on business in London. The Tabard was famous for accommodating people who made the pilgrimage to the Shrine of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral, and it is mentioned in the 14th-century literary work The Canterbury Tales.
