Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England

Being a born and bred Wiltshire-man I was familiar with the slightly mysterious ancient monument of Stonehenge. Others have installed automobile-henge in the USA and I was inspired to build my henge out of sofas. Many days shooting outside furniture stores to get the basic elements and the final construction was finished of with my daughters doll that survived almost unscathed from the fire (see image The Arsonists).

I took this photograph on a stormy day at a time when the rain had abated. The road we were on took us past this iconic landmark on the Wiltshire Plains, so we stopped. Today, Stonehenge is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but it's so old people really don't know why it was built. Sun worship is the popular thought and who is to say that is wrong. Certainly the alignment of the stones seems to indicate an association with the Sun at the time of the summer solstice, but nobody really knows. What they do know is that some of the stones were probably brought there from south Wales; it's the closest known place in the UK where such stone exists. Some of the stones are thought to form markers that indicate rising and setting points for the Sun and the Moon, allowing accurate prediction of forthcoming lunar and solar eclipses.

I called this work "Druid Golf". The name itself sounds absurd and humorous. And when the absurd happens on the back of a huge turtle stone statue, it creates an atmosphere where everything's possible. It's a dream, isn't it?
