The 864th Engineer Battalion is a combat engineer battalion of the United States Army based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. The battalion is a subordinate unit of 555th Engineer Brigade. The 864th Engineer Battalion in May 1956. In May 1965, the battalion was shipped to Cam Ranh Bay, South Vietnam. The battalion was the first U.S. engineer battalion-size unit in Vietnam and responsible for port transportation and support facilities construction. As more engineer battalions were assigned to Vietnam, the unit was assigned missions of base camp construction and line of communication construction and maintenance

Master Sergeant (MSG) is the eighth enlisted grade (E-8), ranking above sergeant first class and below sergeant major, command sergeant major, Sergeant Major of the Army and equal in grade but not authority to a first sergeant. The M109 is an American 155 mm turreted self-propelled howitzer, first introduced in the early 1960s to replace the M44. It has been upgraded a number of times, most recently to the M109A7. The M109 family is the most common Western indirect-fire support weapon of maneuver brigades of armored and mechanized infantry divisions. The M109 has a crew of four: the section chief/commander, the driver, the gunner, and the ammunition handler/loader. The chief or gunner aims the cannon left or right (deflection) and up and down (quadrant).

On 6 April 2004 elements of the 76th Infantry Brigade were ordered to mobilize for deployment to Afghanistan. Three hundred soldiers from the 113th Support Battalion, and an unidentified number of soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 151st Infantry Regiment, the 38th Military Police Company, and the 1438th Transportation Company began deploying in July 2004. The unit suffered at least four casualties, on 26 March 2005, four soldiers, Captain Michael T. Fiscus, Master Sergeant Michael T. Heister, Specialist Brett M. Hershey, and Private First Class Norman K. Snyder were killed when a mine detonated near their vehicle as they were traveling near Kabul

Following the cessation of hostilities in Japan, the 3d Engineers landed with the 24th Infantry Division to occupy Japan. They arrived in Shikoku in November 1945 and moved, first to Honshu in January 1946, then to Kyushu in June 1946 where the battalion was to be stationed. During the early occupation period, from 1946 to 1949, the battalion was primarily concerned with occupational duties such as the supervision and erection of troop and dependent housing at the various stations of the 24th Division. During this period of time the strength was reduced to a low of approximately 300 men. In 1949 the strength of the 3d Engineer Battalion was greatly increased and the accent placed on training a tactical engineer battalion.

The 1st Armored Regiment, part of the 1st Armored Division, was one of the first American units to engage in combat in World War II in the North African Campaign. On 8 November 1942, the 1st Armored Regiment landed at St Leu, French Morocco and captured Tafaraoui Airfield later in the day after overrunning a battery of Vichy French guns. The next day, the regiment fought well against a counterattack by French tanks and managed to destroy 14 French R35 tanks, for the loss of 1 US tank and 1 US KIA.

On 2 September 2006 the 138th Field Artillery Brigade was redesignated as the 138th Fires Brigade. The 138th Field Artillery Brigade is a field artillery (also known as fires) brigade of the United States Army. It is a component of the Kentucky Army National Guard. It is headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Ohio Army National Guard is a part of the Ohio National Guard and the Army National Guard of the United States Army. It is also a component of the organized militia of the state of Ohio, which also includes the Ohio Naval Militia, the Ohio Military Reserve and the Ohio Air National Guard. The Ohio Army National Guard consists of a variety of combat, combat support and combat service support units. As of September 2010, its end strength exceeded 11,400 soldiers. Its headquarters is the Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio. Many units conduct Annual Training at Camp Grayling, Michigan. The main design is adapted from the emblem of the Ohio National Guard. The seventeen arrows allude to Ohio as the seventeenth to enter the union.

In April 1963, the 56th Artillery Group was activated in Schwäbisch Gmünd, West Germany commanded by Col. Douglas C. France, Jr. The group prepared for the deployment of the new weapons system, the Pershing 1 nuclear missile. Headquarters & Headquarters Battery (HHB) was initially stationed at Hardt Kaserne (formerly Adolf Hitler Kaserne) and moved to Bismarck Kaserne in November 1968. The 56th Artillery Group was redesignated as the 56th Artillery Brigade on 17 August 1970.

The squadron was reactivated as the 430th Fighter-Bomber Squadron in 1952, when it replaced an Air National Guard squadron in Japan. It again saw combat in the Korean War, earning another Distinguished Unit Citation and a Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. The squadron returned to the United States in 1954, but made frequent overseas deployments, including combat in the Vietnam War. It remained a fighter unit until inactivating in 1989. In 1992, the unit became the 430th Electronic Combat Squadron, but was only active for one year. It was converted to provisional status and received its current name in 2013.

USS Ramage (DDG-61) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy. The ship is named for Vice Admiral Lawson P. Ramage, a notable submarine commander and Medal of Honor recipient in World War II. In October of 2018, Ramage received short-notice Presidential tasking, and deployed to the US Navy 4th fleet area of responsibility to provide radar surveillance support for the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She departed Norfolk, Virginia on 25 August 2018, and returned soon.

In July 1958 it looked like Lebanon (a US ally at the time) would descend into a civil war, caused by increased tension between moderate christians and muslims. Lebanon had a moderate, pro-western government at the time. Fearing that his government would topple to a muslim rebellion, the Lebanese President called on the US for help. Enter "Operation Blue Bat". US Army Europe already had a contingency plan for rapidly deploying forces to respond to a crisis in the mid-east. The plan called for nearly 14,000 Soldiers and Marines, with most of the Army personnel coming from the 24th Airborne Brigade of the 24th Division. The Army element was known as "Task Force 201". The US Soldiers and Marines arrived in Lebanon in late July of 1958

A sergeant first class is typically assigned as a platoon sergeant at the company level or battalion operations non-commissioned officer in charge at the battalion level, but may also hold other positions depending on the type of unit. In a combat arms role, a sergeant first class is typically in charge of from 18 soldiers and four tanks in an armor platoon to 40 soldiers in a rifle platoon. A sergeant first class's primary responsibilities are tactical logistics, tactical casualty evacuations, and serving as the senior tactical adviser to the platoon leader.

The 7th Battalion 13th Artillery was formed at Fort Irwin, California in July, 1966. They traveled to Vietnam on the USNS Barrett, departing San Diego on October 8, 1966, arriving on October 28 at the port of Qui Nhon. They proceeded to LZ Hammond and the 1st Air Cavalry Division. As an independent battalion in the 41st Artillery Group, 1st Field Force, they operated mainly in the Central Highlands. Their three 6 gun batteries of 105mm howitzers were experienced in airmobile operations supporting the 1st Air Cav, the 4th Division, the 173 Airborne Brigade, plus Special Forces, ARVN and ROK troops. By the time they stood down in October, 1970 they had fired over 1 million rounds and lost 13 soldiers killed in action.

During this period, the 864th was responsible for construction of 290 miles of petroleum pipeline, the repair and maintenance of main supply routes, enemy prisoner of war camp construction, and provided emergency services restoration to Kuwait City.

The 3d Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (3d MEB) was a United States Army brigade located at Fort Richardson, Alaska. The 3d MEB was one of three active duty Maneuver Enhancement Brigades. The Brigade was tasked to improve the movement capabilities and rear area security for commanders at division level or higher. It was inactivated in 2011 and replaced by the 2d Engineer Brigade.

The 58th Infantry Regiment is a regiment of the United States Army first established in 1917. On 15 May 1965 Company C was activated in Germany at Nellingen, Germany,11 May 1965, under the provisions of TOE 7-157E (Infantry Long Range Patrol Company). The order assigned the company to the Seventh Army. HQ Seventh Army, 3 August 1965, further assigned the company to VII Corps. Although not included in the designation, the TOE required that all personnel be Airborne qualified. The unit was formed from personnel and equipment of the US Army Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Company (Airborne) which was inactivated on 15 May 1965 by HQ USAREUR General Order 120, 6 May 1965. On 17 June 2015 the Special Troops Battalion, 173d ABCT was officially reflagged as the 54th Engineer Battalion, a unit with a lineage separate from that of the STB, 173d ABCT.It has since added a second combat engineer company to the ranks.The brigade began its fourth deployment to Afghanistan in early 2010.

Vietnamese Airborne Division was among the elite fighting forces in the ARVN and placed as a reserve unit along with the Republic of Vietnam Marine Division. Headquarters of the Airborne Division was outside of Saigon. The Airborne Division would mobilize anywhere within the four corps at a moment's notice.

Fort Concho was the principal base of the 4th Cavalry from 1867 to 1875 and then the "Buffalo Soldiers" of the 10th Cavalry from 1875 and 1882.

The 23d CBRN Battalion is a Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives defense battalion of the United States Army, part of the 2ID Sustainment Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Humphreys, Korea. It traces its lineage back to the 1944 formation of the 23rd Chemical Smoke Generator Battalion in England during World War II. The 23rd was inactivated after the end of the war and reactivated in 1949 as the 4th Chemical Smoke Generator Battalion, serving in the Korean War before being inactivated in Germany at the end of the 1950s. The 23rd Chemical Battalion was reactivated in Korea in 1988.

The 3rd Radio Research Unit (Detachment) were among the earliest U.S. military advisors in Vietnam; 3rd RRU later grew to become the 509th Radio Research Group These occupations, which required a top secret clearance with Special Intelligence/crypto special clearances, were essential to U.S. Cold War efforts. ASA units usually operated in four groups using revolving shifts to provide coverage twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
