Merlot grapes are very delicious and sweet when fully ripe and ready for harvest. The vineyard workers were harvesting the grapes right beside me.

Old Garage is a sepia tone photographic art print of an old garage. I found this when I was walking around Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts. I liked the look of the structure and thought it would make a great print. I used a sepia tone finish on the photograph for that old rustic look. The sepia brown tones originated with film photography as part of the process to develop the prints in the 1800’s. Today, we can recreate that same vintage look digitally. Spain and the autonomous community of Catalonia are very famous for their wonderful wines. The province of Alt Emporda, for example, produces soft, light wines that every year win many awards in competitions. The painting depicts wine bottles and filled wineglasses. On the sides are bunches of grapes. In the background, mountains are visible. They are bathed in the evening sun. Oil. Varnished. Signed.

The Secession Movement of Martha's Vineyard - A bill was introduced into the State House proposing secession from Massachusetts. Overwhelming majorities voted for secession at town meetings all across the Islands. A convocation of the All-Island Selectmen’s Association on Martha’s Vineyard voted to leave the state and (maybe) the nation. For a while, it was headline news across the nation; it is comprehensively documented in the files of the Vineyard Gazette and the morgues of other media. It is commemorated not on plaques but in memorabilia including flags, clothing, and bumper stickers. Its spirit is there every time an Islander colloquially refers to the act of taking a trip off-Island as “going to America.”

The scene depicts the West Chop Lighthouse in a New England village. The setting is the inter water coastal region surrounding Martha’s Vineyard. Martha’s Vineyard is just off the coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Wine is an imortant part of the Mediterranean gastronomic culture. In particular, wine is honored in Spain and Catalonia. The Catalonian region Alt Emporda is famous for its light, pleasant wines. Trader Jack was one of the most revered and feared pirates that lurked around New England. His career of piracy began and ended in Massachusetts. Towns all over New England each have their own tale of Trader Jack secreting his treasures in the darkness of night. Between 1783 and 1821 Trader Jack captured over 400 ships from the coast of Maine to the Florida peninsula, making him one of the most successful pirates of all time.

Remembering The Skipper restaurant (1921 to 1984) on Steamboat Wharf, Nantucket with this distressed font item. The Skipper was a Nantucket island summer institution, located partly on an old coasting schooner alongside the wharf and partly in a building on the pierside. Such wonderful memories of our family dinners there, feeding seagulls and watching the boats come and go.
