Art by Duy Truong.................This is our first drawing in book seven of our Wurtherington Diary Series." Buffalo Bill and the Indians." Mark said he wanted to show me some magic tricks. I met him in his bedroom where he had it all set up. Of course I brought Cedric, Zeke, and Polly with me. He had a little stage set up and a banner that read, Mark the Magnificent. We all took a seat and he was quite amazing with the illusions. He was very insistent that he be called an illusionist which is a step up from being a magician. He did card tricks, mind reading, and then escaped from a pair of handcuffs. He saved his best trick for last when he disappeared in a puff of smoke and then walked in behind us through the door!

It was a slide over-the-top outfit so I put it on. He handed me a three feathered Indian hat and I took a look in the window where I could see my reflection. I gave a little shake and it all fell into place. Yes, I looked like an Indian princess. I gave him a kiss for being so thoughtful. Alfred handed me a beaded necklace to finish off the new look. Art by Duy Truong.......... We were ushered to the palace garden that rested alongside the shimmering blue waters of Lake Kira. It was a cool, clear morn with a slight breeze that drifted ever so gently across the waters. A distant range of snow-capped mountaintops undulated and swelled like a line of long lost fairytale sandcastles. Princess Catherine ( the queen of the bees) gave us a warm welcome. No longer did she look at all like a bee. Her hair was now a golden honey that glistened spectacularly in the sunlight. She explained that she had important business with the bees to attend to after our meeting. "They are my little darlings. Not a day goes by without a crisis!" She laughed; then sat with us at copper-topped tables with eme...

Come with me and I will show you your news lands." He was a bit hesitant but soon was aboard Polly. We did a figure eight around the village and then sailed off for the Chiricahua mountains. I knew that much of this was familiar to him; however seeing it from the air would be a great experience for him. When we arrived, we settled to the grassy plain and I pointed to the posts that set the Southwest boundary. A sign said Chiricahua Reservation. "Be ready to lift me into the air on my signal. We are going to do some illusions now." Zeke wondered, "Are you going to do any card tricks?" "Silly, Zeke—we will let them think I am an angel that flew in bearing a message of great importance." I let a full five minutes go by while I listened to their chatter. He hired a photographer to take pictures of Pike, Wild Bill, and Cody and many others. All of these pictures would end up in his stories and make Wild Bill and Cody heroes of the West. We saw Ned Buntline get on that stage headed back to New York. He waved as he passed through the gate. "I'll have a book written about you before Christmas," he promised. "I'll send you a copy!" We sat with Wild Bill and Cody overlooking the prairie that stretched to the horizon. A buffalo herd bedded down for the night as the Sun sank low in the West. Off to the north a trio of Kiowa braves sat on mustangs gazing at the scarlet sun...

I could see that General Oliver Howard and Eli S. Parker had prepared him for my associates and he did well to hold back his astonishment at seeing talking animals for the first time (and probably his last). Alfred swept his hat across the carpet in a grand gesture. He said, "It is indeed a pleasure to meet you, Mr. President. I do thank you for meeting with us this afternoon."

Art by Duy Truong................................(Earlier) Zeke took me aside. He said, "I'm going next door and bring back magic dancing shoes." He gave me a wink and I caught on. We found a great pair of shoes and rushed back to the post office. Yep—these were enchanted shoes guaranteed to turn anyone into a dancing master. "Magic shoes!" Zeke polished them off with his sleeve and claimed he could feel the aura of the magic shoes. Tom put them on and walked around the room. "I can feel the magic!" he said. Cedric, Zeke, and Alfred began playing a waltz. I counted, "One, two, three, long, short, short," like Mrs. Prescott taught us at River Falls Elementary. I said, "The magic shoes are working. Look at Tom dance!"........................

Deadwood was established in 1876 and has had many famous and infamous visitors. These include Seth Bullock, Al Swearengen, Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Wyatt Earp and many more.

William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody (February 26, 1846 – January 10, 1917) was an American soldier, bison hunter, and showman. He was born in Le Claire, Iowa Territory (now the U.S. state of Iowa), but he lived for several years in his father's hometown in modern-day Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, before the family returned to the Midwest and settled in the Kansas Territory. Buffalo Bill started working at the age of eleven, after his father's death, and became a rider for the Pony Express at age 15. During the American Civil War, he served the Union from 1863 to the end of the war in 1865. Later he served as a civilian scout for the US Army during the Indian Wars, receiving the Medal of Honor in 1872.

Art by Duy Troung........ Book is nearly complete and we think Duy has come up with a beautiful cover......This is the sixth book in the illustrated historical series, The Wurtherington Diary. This is a stand-a-lone story and is part one of the real-life adventures of Tammy and Buffalo Bill Cody. Of course she is in good company with Alfred the mouse, Zeke the orphaned opossum, Cedric, the mischievous mongoose, and Polly, the good-hearted bird. This part of Tammy's diary takes place 1855-1861 during the days of the Pony Express. As with all the Wurtherington Diary books, this one abounds in developing worthwhile feelings for its young readers. Things like honesty, compassion, and respect for others abound on very page.
