A monochrome view across the River Thames of Windsor Castle's famous Round Tower overshadowing the town. . The tower itself sits on an artificial mound or 'motte', the original being built by Henry II in c1170. The present tower is a remodelling under George IV in the 1820s. The castle has always been a Royal residence, a retreat from the centre of London. Below it the River Thames has always been a highway to and from London, at one time the main route.

Windsor Forestry Tools was founded in Milan, Tennessee in 1948, specializing in the manufacturing of products for chainsaws. Often referring to their product line as 'The Windsor Cutting Train' in marketing materials and catalogs, Windsor's primary product line consisted of chainsaw bars, chains, and sprockets for all major manufacturer's chainsaws. The company continued to produce their line for decades until being acquired by a Swedish firm in the mid-'80s, something that would be repeated several times before the company's demise some time around 2010.

This image, originally captured on film, is of the entrance to what I believe are lodgings for the Military Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the world's oldest chivalric order. Above the doorway is the emblem of the order, which, with the exception to the Victoria Cross and George Cross, is the most senior order of knighthood in the British honours system. Membership is extremely limited: the monarch (Queen), the Prince of Wales, and twenty-four members appointed by the monarch. It seems that the order dates back to when Edward III established it in 1348. The centre of the emblem is a shield displaying the cross of Saint George, around which is a garter that carries the words "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Shame on him who th...

Chair bodging is a craft particularly associated with the beechwoods covering the Chiltern Hills. The bodger here is working at his pole lathe, often referred to as a High Wycombe lathe, turning out chair legs for the furniture industry. Bodgers would usually buy stands of trees and set up their workplace among them. The Chilterns are known for their typical furniture with turned wooden legs and stretchers - such as the Windsor chair.

The Windsor Town Bridge crossing the River Thames, linking Windsor and Eton in Berkshire. River transport was always important here particularly with the royal palace at Windsor. There has been a bridge on this site since at least the 12thC when records show tolls of the equivalent of £4.33 being paid to a landowner, Osbert de Bray, for boats passing beneath the bridge. The present bridge with cast iron arches was opened in 1824. It is now pedestrian only being too weak for heavy traffic. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200
