Violins Tapestry

The violin is a musical instrument, classified as a string instrument or chordophone. It was invented by Gasparo de Salò, an Italian who lived between 1540 and 1609. The term "violin" was introduced into the Portuguese language in the 20th century. Until then, the designation of the instrument was rabeca, a word that is still used in many places. It is the smallest and most acute of the instruments in its family (which still has the viola, cello and double bass) and corresponds to the Soprano of the human voice. The violin has four percussed strings, with tuning from the highest to the lowest: The violin's timbre is high, bright and strident, but depending on the string used and the way it is played, more velvety timbres can be produced.
