This photograph was scanned from a glass slide in a box dated Cambridge 1911 and it was found after some research that the photos are depicting the annual may bumps rowing races on the river Cam in Cambridge. The races are open to all of the college boat clubs from the University of Cambridge, the University Medical and Veterinary Schools and Anglia Ruskin Boat Club. The May Bumps takes place over four days (running from the Wednesday to the Saturday) in mid-June despite the name and is run as a bumps race.
