Rhossili Bay, on the western end of the Gower Peninsula (South Wales) lies within an area designated as the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the United Kingdom. Its superb sandy beach (known locally as Llangenith Sands) stretches 3 miles from the village of Rhossili to Burry Holms (top left), a small island which can only be accessed at low tide. Ascending Rhossili Down (top right), with its Iron Age remains and wartime fortifications, you reach The Beacon, at 193 metres, the highest point on the Gower Peninsula.
