The Abbey Mill in the ancient town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. It stands on a stretch of the River Avon appropriately called the Mill Avon. Although now residential, the mill started life in about 1190 as the corn mill for the nearby abbey. It is said that the monks excavated the Mill Avon - joining further on with the River Severn - to drive the water wheel. It was then rebuilt in 1793 and had four uindershot wheels - the remains of one still in evidence. It ceased working in 1920.
