上泉信纲: Kamiizumi Nobutsuna, was a samurai in Japan's Sengoku period famous for creating the Shinkage-ryu school of combat. He once served as retainer in Nagano clan, and fought with major clan such as Takeda and Hojo, after the fall of Nagano clan, he refuse to serve Takeda Shingen and travel around the country to spread Shinkage-ryu. Among his student are the 13th Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru and Yagyu Munetoshi, another famous swordman in Japan history. 新陰流: Shinkage-ryu, meaning "new shadow school". 劍聖: Legendary swordmaster. In the background is the statue of Kamiizumi Nobutsuna in Gunma Prefecture.
