Apple Blossom Macro Study #1, Watercolor on Arches Rough, by Conni Schaftenaar Several years ago I took a series of photos of a branch of apple blossoms in one of our horse pastures. I first painted something from these photos in my Apple Blossoms in Spring, a watercolor on Masa paper, also in my gallery. This study was to play with a combination of transparent (in the flowers) and granulating (in the background and leaves) watercolors. In this version, Study #, I did layers of wet-into-wet using greens and Prussian Blue for the background, letting the lovely granulation form - mmm mmm mmm!
