Shwe Nan Daw Kyaung (Golden Place) Monastery, Mandalay, Myanmar This monastery was originally part of the Amarapura palace complex and was moved to Mandalay to become the apartment of King Mindon. When King Mindon died in 1878, his son, King Thibaw, had it dismantled and using mainly these materials, he built the present monastery. Upon its completion on 18 November 1883, he dedicated it to the Buddhist order. The whole building was once heavily gilt and adorned with glass mosaics and exquisite wood carvings.
