William John "Bill" Evans (born August 16, 1929 in Plainfield, New Jersey, † September 15, 1980 in New York City, New York) was an American jazz pianist, composer and bandleader. Bill Evans is considered one of the most influential pianists of modern jazz and style-shaping for a generation of musicians including Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea and Brad Mehldau.
