Bird Watching Pillows

The Curious bird decor is based on the work of the master of Ukrainian naïve painting Maria Prymachenko. The artist's museum in Ivankiv was destroyed by the Moscow occupiers in 2022. The artist mainly painted images of fantastic animals in bright saturated colors.

As if the Sandhill Cranes were not loud enough, from the field beyond the bay arose a very loud Murmuration of Starlings. European Starlings use murmuration to confuse predators and to keep warm. And it could have been either one on this morning as it was 24 degrees when we arrived and while watching mainly the Sandhill Cranes we witnessed about 10 Bald Eagles flying over the water and the grassy areas. Morning Flight of the Sandhill Cranes by Debra Martz Just to the left of this landscape is the Sand Creek Bay where 1000s of Sandhill Cranes were wading in the water in the very early morning. Many of them flew before there was ample light for photographs. The light and colors are from the sun rising in the east highlighting the western sky and landscape. Taken during fall migration in early November at the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge where just a short hike will lead you to the bay and a very nice bird blind for photographers and bird watchers. Common Gallinule Looking Fluffy by Debra Martz The tail showing off white under tail feathers is just one of the displays of courtship during mating season. And, it was March so this is a possible reason for the raised tail. The Common Gallinule in the Americas were once known as the Common Moorhen like those of the Old World. Green Heron by Debra Martz Bird watching in Port Aransas, Texas is always a delight for me...especially since I live within a 20 minute drive. I sometimes go looking for specific birds and other days, such as this one, just see what happens to show up where I'm birding. I love watching these playful Wrens. So much so that I decided to be playful with the editing for this one. We have several of these that visit our back yard, sometimes running around the patio, up on the chairs, checking out the grill, the feeders and everything in between.
